Brief Outage in Oldenborg

At 3pm today there was a brief outage of all network services in Oldenborg. I rebooted the switches in the basement and service appears to have been restored. The full time staff have been notified of this recurrent hardware problem and have pledged to investigate.

Portal cannot display information

A student called the helpdesk this morning to report that he can log into the my.pomona.edu portal successfully, but attempts to retrieve information produce an following error message. I duplicated the problem from the consultant computer trying to log in to my own account.

Yay!

In response to the TSL Joke Issue, I’m proud to announce that we have gone almost 72 hours without any kind of downtime! Aside from a brief (10-15 minute) outage in Oldenborg caused by faulty switches rather than any server problem, intermapper shows no problems in the past few days.

At this point the wireless access point in Gibson has been turned off for the evening. It appears that someone was connected to both the wireless access point and the residential network at the same time. This causes a loop in the network and can effectively bring the entire student network down. If you have […]
