About ITS

Mission

Pomona College uses targeted technologies to support its mission as a premier residential liberal arts college. The ongoing exploration and strategic implementation of innovative and reliable technologies play a key role in enhancing Pomona’s educational environment and advancing educational and administrative excellence.

The Mission of Information Technology Services is to support the mission of Pomona College through excellence in design, development and application of information technology for the college community.

Vision

The vision of the Information Technology Services (ITS) department at Pomona is to create and sustain an information technology organization and environment that is:

  • Integral to the academic and administrative success of Pomona College in terms of automation, support, facilitation and transformation:
    • Everyone has access to high performance, high speed networks through the development of a core set of services
    • World-class networking and computing
    • Streamlined administrative systems
    • Cutting-edge technology in classrooms
  • Recognized as the leader in private, liberal arts undergraduate academic institutions

The ITS vision is organized around certain of the College’s core activities: teaching and learning, research, student life and administration. The use of IT in each of these activities depends on a sound IT infrastructure, which in turn relies on a base of solid funding and governance.

Infrastructure

ITS will provide an infrastructure that is scaleable, adaptive and flexible. It will allow for growth and expansion, adaptation to new technologies and applications, and accommodation of specialized equipment needed for research. It will be reliable, available and manageable.

  • Universal IT access for faculty, students and staff is essential
  • IT resources are most effective when delivered in a distributed manner by a centrally-coordinated support network
  • The College will provide a classroom environment in which instructors may leverage IT capabilities
  • The College will achieve economies of scale in purchasing and support

Management and Governance

Working with ITS to provide leadership in the area of technology on the campus are several official groups representing the various constituencies of the campus community:

  • The Faculty Executive Committee of the Faculty normally meets twice each semester with the Executive Director of ITS to provide input on standards and policies for hardware, software and support services as well as providing input for long term planning specifically in the area of educational technology.
  • Student Users Group is a standing committee appointed by the ASPC. The Student Users Group recommends standards and policies for ITS support servces including student labs and Resnet services.
  • Pomona Administrative Software Systems Committee (PASS) recommends standards and policies for hardware, software and support services for administrative users, and promotes the use of and prepares long-term plans for administrative technology.

All of these resources will be focused on the use of information technology in support of:

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Research
  • Student Life
  • Administration of the College
